Bone Health ~ Topical Tips | Surprising Suggestions

Bone spongy structure close-ups: normal and with osteoporosis
Whether you are male or female, if you’re 30 or older, you have begun to lose bone density at the rate of approximately 1% per year; and, if you’re a female, who achieves menopause, the rate of loss increases greatly thereafter, so anyone can benefit from reading “Bone Health ~ Topical Tips.” 🙂
We all know we need calcium for bone health, but calcium also is critical to muscle and nerve function, blood pressure regulation, normal heartbeat, blood clotting, the health of our cells, and the release of certain hormones. However, calcium is not all we need. There are other vital nutrients that help your body absorb and use calcium. The most important of these are magnesium, vitamin D, and vitamin K.
Question: are you at risk for developing osteoporosis or other Vitamin D deficiency-related illness? According to WebMD, “People who have low levels of vitamin D may need supplements. Vitamin D deficiencies are more common in those who:
- Are over 50
- Get very little sun exposure
- Have kidney disease or diseases that affect the absorption of minerals
- Have darker skin
- Are lactose intolerant
- Are vegan
- Are infants who are fed only breast milk.”

Bone Health ~ Topical Tips | California Dried Plums!
In 2007, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Proclaimed January is California Dried Plum Digestive Health Month.
“California Dried Plums are a good choice for maintaining and achieving digestive health due to their unique combination of nutrients including soluble and insoluble fiber,” said Leo Treyzon, M.D., specializing in clinical nutrition and gastroenterology at University of California, Los Angeles….(They) also provide micronutrients involved in bone metabolism, including potassium, vitamin K and boron. In addition, this nutrient-dense dried fruit is high in plant substances called polyphenols, which are strong antioxidants that may protect DNA against damage, decrease inflammation and prevent cancer.”

Bone Health ~ Topical Tips | DRINK CLAY!
If you know me, you know I love the benefits of calcium Bentonite clay, from The Living Clay Co. To learn more about it’s many uses, Click Here. I cannot prove this; but I can tell you that I had a bone density test years ago, and the results showed my bone density to be at the mid-range of poor. The only thing I did differently before the next test, was to drink this clay, at which point my bone density was back in the normal range.
While I use it primarily as a drink (1 tsp of clay powder to 2 oz. of water or other liquid) (never boiled and never mixed with a metal utensil), it also makes a great, cleansing bath, which raises the question of whether it is safe to drain a clay bathwater into a septic system. Here is the answer! I could and shall write more about the uses of clay, but I’m guessing you’re tired of reading by now, so I’ll save it for another day.
Here’s to your good health!
