Belly Dancing Is Exercise!

Who IS That Beauty – Demonstrating Belly Dancing Is Exercise?!

That is my new BFF, Nava, of Nava’s Dance, in Dumfries, Virginia.  She is gorgeous, smart as a whip, and provides classes for women and girls in legitimate, original Middle Eastern dance (which Westerners call “belly dancing”), as well as offering other wellness suggestions and products.  Here is what she says about it:

“My name is Nava and I teach Middle Eastern Dance.   To Westerners, this dance is known as Belly Dance but the term is a misnomer and provides a limited view of authentic Middle Eastern dancing.  Raqs Sharqi (spelled many ways) translated is “Dance Oriental” and evolved from many forms of dances performed in Middle Eastern Countries.

I recently opened a Dance Studio in Dumfries, Virginia for women and girls; if you’d like more information on this culturally rich dance form, stop by for a class.  The next semester begins May 12, 2015.”

Why Am I Featuring Belly Dance On A Wellness Site?

Dancing is very aerobic, meaning it helps increase and circulate oxygen in the body through lively, but moderate exercise.  This not only helps the flow of oxygen, but also blood and lymph fluids, the latter of which is one way in which the body cleanses itself of toxins, and other forms of waste.  Of course, dance also exercises muscles, helps with balance, and gives great fluidity of movement resulting in a graceful appearance.

The beauty of exercising through dance is that it is fun, beautiful to watch, freeing of the spirit, and still gives one the opportunity to learn professional techniques for a centuries-old form of cultural art.  If you live nearby, I hope you will contact Nava.  If you don’t, maybe you can find a dance class near you, even if it is of a different style.
