ADD/ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

stick figure scratching head and sitting on a red question mark answering questions about ADD and ADHDWhat Do ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Mean, and Are You Experiencing the Symptoms? Is it related to sleep disorders? Do you need a Life Coach who specializes in this area?

According to WebMD, ADD and ADHD refer to a condition with symptoms such as inattentiveness, impulsivity, and hyperactivity.

The symptoms differ from person to person. ADHD was formerly called ADD, or attention deficit disorder. Both children and adults can have ADHD, but the symptoms always begin in childhood. Adults with ADHD may have trouble managing time, being organized, setting goals, and holding down a job.”

The A.D.D. Resource Center gives more details. (Note: I’m going to use both terms (ADD and ADHD) occasionally, because (although I might be wrong) I don’t think everyone who has these symptoms is hyperactive. However, the new convention is to refer to all symptoms under the label ADHD.)

Putting Yourself First for A Change – Exploring A Self-Care Checklist

Change Your Life! Happy figures.Putting Yourself First for A Change

profile of woman in headscarf - looking down - ready for changeAs we know, all cultural training teaches women to take care of their family’s needs as the highest priority and at any cost. As nurturing spirits, we often extend that caring behavior to include everyone but ourselves. The result can be difficulty in “saying no,” setting boundaries and addressing one’s own physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. NOW is the time to change our minds – in a GOOD way.

“Envision Enhanced Vision”

(Meet Your Self! Topic for November and December 2015)

Astounding Revelation!

Seeing Eye

Seeing Eye

It is shocking to learn that, in people with multiple personality disorders, optometrists found that each “personality” had different vision, and the eyes took on different shapes when each personality took dominance. This indicates that the physical part of our eyes is only one – relatively small – source of how well we see. The rest is happening in the brain/mind/consciousness. Emotional states and things like posture directly impact your vision! So, we’re exploring this topic to learn how to prevent or correct eyesight issues.

Meet Your Self!

If you cannot attend our Meet Your Self! December, 1, 2015 session, you can book me to do it again in another place at another time. Ultimately, I can conduct these seminars on-line, so, if you want to help me experiment with that, call me to discuss it at 540-636-4311, or Read More now. Continue Reading →

Belly Dancing Is Exercise!

Nava Knows Beauty

Nava Knows Beauty

Who IS That Beauty – Demonstrating Belly Dancing Is Exercise?!

That is my new BFF, Nava, of Nava’s Dance, in Dumfries, Virginia.  She is gorgeous, smart as a whip, and provides classes for women and girls in legitimate, original Middle Eastern dance (which Westerners call “belly dancing”), as well as offering other wellness suggestions and products.  Here is what she says about it:

“My name is Nava and I teach Middle Eastern Dance.   To Westerners, this dance is known as Belly Dance but the term is a misnomer and provides a limited view of authentic Middle Eastern dancing.  Raqs Sharqi (spelled many ways) translated is “Dance Oriental” and evolved from many forms of dances performed in Middle Eastern Countries.

I recently opened a Dance Studio in Dumfries, Virginia for women and girls; if you’d like more information on this culturally rich dance form, stop by for a class.  The next semester begins May 12, 2015.”

Nava Wows The Audience!

Nava Wows The Audience!

Why Am I Featuring Belly Dance On A Wellness Site?

Dancing is very aerobic, meaning it helps increase and circulate oxygen in the body through lively, but moderate exercise.  This not only helps the flow of oxygen, but also blood and lymph fluids, the latter of which is one way in which the body cleanses itself of toxins, and other forms of waste.  Of course, dance also exercises muscles, helps with balance, and gives great fluidity of movement resulting in a graceful appearance.

The beauty of exercising through dance is that it is fun, beautiful to watch, freeing of the spirit, and still gives one the opportunity to learn professional techniques for a centuries-old form of cultural art.  If you live nearby, I hope you will contact Nava.  If you don’t, maybe you can find a dance class near you, even if it is of a different style.

Eliminating Inflammation – What Can You Do?

Eliminating Inflammation Is Vital To Good Health and Anti-Aging

Sick woman's eyes = need for eliminating inflammation

Gaze Into My Ruby Red Eyes!

stick_figure + letters Q & A - how can we eliminate inflammationQ:  “Why does the body have inflammation?”

A.  Eliminating inflammation is important, because inflammation indicates that a body is trying to counteract things like illness, injury, dementia, allergies, stings, and stress.

It not only is a healing mechanism, but also is a valuable message to the body’s “owner” that something is wrong and needs attention.

We should LOVE our inflammation first (for telling us the body needs help) —  and then get rid of it!

There Are Several Natural Methods of Eliminating Inflammation

Gold kiliHere’s a Quick and Delicious Drink which is very helpful, because it is made with ginger.  There also is a version with green tea in the mix.  You can make this as a hot drink or as a cold beverage.  All you need is to add water; but I add it to juices, as well.

It’s called Goli kili ginger drink, and is available through Amazon.com, among other locations.

Over Time, We’ll Discuss Alternatives for Eliminating Inflammation

First Up:  Dr. Andrew Weil’s Suggestions

Dr. Andrew Weil

Note:  I love Dr. Andrew Weil, who currently is Director of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona.  Wikipedia has all the details; but, briefly, Dr.  Weil is world-famous for establishing the field of integrative medicine, which aims to combine alternative and conventional medicine.  He is a physician, and a research biologist, who truly understands the effects of plants on the body.

Here is a quote from his blog/web site, where you can get lots of information on a regular basis:

Optimal health does not come from a “miracle” drug or a fad diet, but is instead the result of making prudent daily decisions about how to eat, exercise, handle stress and connect with others.

One solution to inflammation is to eat and drink properly, using beneficial, anti-inflammatory foods.  Click on this picture of his Anti-Inflammatory Food Pyramid, where you can get the information by looking at the graphic.  He also has created a specific diet for you to follow.

“What Does An Anti-Inflammatory Diet Do? The anti-inflammatory diet is a blueprint for a lifetime of optimum nutrition. Simple changes in how you eat can help counteract chronic inflammation, a root cause of many serious diseases, including:

OK, you can go to Dr. Weil’s website to learn more about this and a million other subjects. Meanwhile, let’s refer to how inflammation affects/causes aging.

Inflammation and Aging Processes

Here’s a new word for you:  Senescence (/sɪˈnɛsəns/) (from Latin: senescere, meaning “to grow old”, from senex) or biological aging (also spelled biological ageing). (Thanks, Wikipedia.) I advise you to read this article only if you have sophisticated vocabulary and a serious interest in the subject.  The bottom line is that some theories of aging relate directly to the levels of inflammation and free radical damage present in the body.

Since there are so many anti-inflammatory foods, herbs, and options, and since we all want to preserve health and youthful bodies, I am going to refer you to another blog about food combinations and to future posts on this My Get Well Guru website, for some quick solutions, such as the use of ginger, aloe vera, and other items, rather than writing a whole thesis on this blog.  In the meantime, let’s reduce our…

Wellness Therapies – Yoga

Wellness Therapies Can Include YOGA!

Lily

This special blog is for people in Northern Virginia and surrounding areas, and is just a token of affection  about the place where I have taken yoga classes.

I love The Yoga Connection!  My class emphasizes the wellness of internal organs and the movement of chi to heal the whole body, as well as stretching muscles, ligaments, and fascia.  It is a pure form of yoga, in which we hold the poses long enough to be truly beneficial to body, mind, and spirit.  I am 69 years old, at this writing, and am profiting greatly from the health benefits of these fun classes, which are affordable and available in a flexible schedule, so no money is wasted.

Here is their website for on-going class schedules:  http://www.theyogaconnection.net/
