Mindfulness Meditations

 Mindfulness Is For Everyone

What Is It and Why Is It for Everyone?

Wikipedia Definition of Mindfulness: “Mindfulness is the practice of bringing one’s attention to the internal and external experiences occurring in the present moment,

The popular mindfulness movement was initiated by Jon Kabat-Zinn.”

🌙 Healing Sleep Invocation

In Your Own Voice?

Here is the script ~ to be spoken aloud or silently before bed or during wakeful hours when rest will not come.

Begin by placing one hand over your heart and one over your lower abdomen. Take three slow, deep breaths—each longer than the last. Let the earth hold you. Let the stars hear you.

I now surrender the burdens I was never meant to carry through the night.
I give back what is not mine, across time, across dimensions, across lineages.
I do not have to resolve it all before I rest.
I do not have to remember everything before I release it.

The sacred tasks of the day are complete.
What is unfinished belongs to tomorrow, or to the angels.
I no longer confuse vigilance with love.
I no longer confuse exhaustion with purpose.

I call now to the Guides who keep watch in the twilight.
Wrap me in the frequency of restoration.
Remove the armor I forgot I was wearing.
Unclench my jaw, soften my spine, still my mind.

My soul is safe to wander.
My body is safe to rest.

I enter now the Temple of Sacred Sleep.
Where stars anoint my skin with silver peace.
Where the lullaby of the Universe sings to my cells.
Where no thought is needed, no deed demanded.

I return to the beginning. I return to the breath.
I return to the cradle of the cosmos.

I sleep not in escape, but in trust.
I sleep not in collapse, but in communion.
I sleep, because I am held.

Take one final breath and exhale with sound. Let the veil fall gently.

PTSD:11 Powerful Ways to Heal from PTSD & Reclaim Your Life

A bubble figure pressing on a big red button with the word HELP! on it. 11 ways to address PTSDPTSD is defined by the Mayo Clinic as follows.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that’s caused by an extremely stressful or terrifying event — either being part of it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety and uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

In addition, the Cleveland Clinic states:

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common mental health condition that can develop after a traumatic event. It involves symptoms like flashbacks, anxiety, negative thoughts and beliefs, hypervigilance and more. The main treatment for PTSD is psychotherapy (talk therapy).

It adds:

People with PTSD have intense and intrusive thoughts and feelings related to the experience that last long after the event.  PTSD involves stress responses like:

  • Anxiety, depressed mood, or feelings of guilt or shame.
  • Having flashbacks or nightmares.
  • Avoiding situations, places and activities related to the traumatic event.

These symptoms cause distress and interfere with your daily functioning.

People with PTSD May Find It Hard to Experience Unfettered Beauty. It’s Always Like Seeing Through  Shattered Glass.

What Are Some Alternative Methods for Helping People who Have PTSD?

The Cleveland Clinic mentions only psychotherapy (talk therapy). However, I am aware of other approaches that can be used along with psychotherapy or instead of that treatment. I’ll share eleven examples that are evidence-supported and/or emerging approaches. There are more, but this already is a long post! Continue Reading →

Transpersonal Hypnotherapy FAQs & Some Answers

Transpersonal Hypnotherapy FAQs – What Do You Want To Know? Ask Me!

Hello, People! Let’s talk about Transpersonal Hypnotherapy and HypnoMeditation! I last published this educational article in 2015, so it might be time for a refresher.

Especially now, it seems relevant as I am embarking on the creation of a series of new HypnoMeditations for people in roles of “caregiver” for cancer patients and people in equally dire circumstances. I’m doing this because of my new affiliation with Flourishing Beyond Cancer, LLC, which is a startup company, being developed by my long-time friends, one of whom is the patient and the other is the caregiver.

Let’s learn about hypnotherapy and HypnoMeditations as they are great tools to use for the release of stress, fears, outworn beliefs, and for meeting new goals. Below are the answers to some FAQS.

FREE ROOT CHAKRA MEDITATION

The Root Chakra is only one of many. You might already know that. SO …

Why a FREE Root Chakra Meditation?

I just got inspired to share it for free and without the requirement that people take my class because lots of us are feeling scattered, harried, harassed, and not at home in our own bodies, given all the stressors these days, that’s why! We need help, and I can provide some.

keyboard with red key and word, "Help" I can help with the Free Root Chakra Meditation that I'm sharing with you here and now.

Recently, I’ve been teaching an intensive course called “Chakras With Benefits. It is among many classes I teach on Zoom.

First, in case you don’t know about them, here is a link to describe chakras (in great detail, because it takes you to Deepak Chopra’s site.  emoji laughing so hard that tears come

He’s  a prolific writer, teacher, physician, metaphysician, and spiritual guru, who combines an understanding of Eastern and Western medicine and metaphysics in educating people throughout the world.)

“…With Benefits?”

I used the term, “With Benefits” because I kept adding extra information to each class. These concepts are loosely related to the chakra system but are not typically taught as part of the subject matter. However, I have many holistic healing and metaphysics certifications and interests, so I couldn’t resist tossing in some spiritual pursuits information that I thought would be helpful.

Thus, a course that my students and I thought would last for 7 or 8 weekly sessions, took us over two months to complete, and we could have gone on much longer. It was fascinating and fun! I gave certificates of completion to those who finished all the classes.

How Did Students Feel About the Course?

I’ll quote what two of them said.

3-Month Course: Chakras With Benefits – Fall, 2022

Figure seated in the yoga lotus position with chakra colors showing. Testimonials from the FREE Root Chakra Meditation class.

“I just completed the most amazing class with Nancy Ayanna Wyatt. The Beginners Chakra Class is an overview of the body’s energy system presenting what each chakra governs and reacts to.

This is an excellent college-level course masterfully taught using a variety of teaching media from lectures to guided imagery to videos and recordings. I particularly benefited from the class exercises, discussions, and meditations. These interactive exercises provided experiential evidence of how I could personally benefit from aligning with the body’s energy system.

Nancy skillfully shared her knowledge and experience punctuated with delightful anecdotes. The amount of supplemental materials provided in addition to course content goes beyond the basics allowing for further research and the creation of individual meditations and healing practices.”

~ Ravenell W.

Nancy is an amazing teacher on so many levels. Her classes are extremely thorough and she goes above and beyond to add extra resourceful content, which I appreciate so much. She is passionate and knowledgeable and her voice alone allows you to focus and feel calm with all that she teaches. The topics are numerous and well put together. I look forward to taking more classes and enjoying learning all her different fields of expertise.

~ Rebekah B.

I’d Love to Teach the Course Again – for All Chakras or the Root Chakra

I couldn’t have asked for better students, but I shall offer the course again if there is sufficient interest.

Meanwhile, here is what I promised you. Note: I did not add sounds to my narrations, because you might want to:

  • have silence
  • add your own meditation music
  • add water or other nature sounds
  • and what you want might change over time and with different circumstances.

The FREE Root Chakra Meditation

I hope this helps you feel less scattered, well-grounded, and happy to be who you are, despite any and all challenges you may face.

Chant Your Way Into A New State of Mind

To chant – do you need mantras and rituals?

What’s Tina Got to Do with It?

Singer Tina Turner became a Buddhist, learned to chant, and helped make chanting more "mainstream" in America

The famous singer, Tina Turner, is one of the people who has helped bring chants and chanting into the mainstream. Reportedly, when she turned to Buddhism, she began, in part, by using the Nam Myoho Renge Kyo mantra. There are many fast-paced versions on YouTube, but here she is, showing us how she does it.  Tina Turner – Nam Myoho Renge Kyo (2H Buddhist Mantra). It made me curious! How ’bout you? Unleash Creativity | Chakras & Haiku Poetry

Haiku and Chakras – who would have thought of them in combination? I would, of course!

I loved learning about each one, albeit years apart!

CREATIVITY – THE CHAKRA CRUTCH DESCRIBED IN HAIKU

Nancy (Ayanna) Wyatt headshot

I’m about to teach you how I psyched myself up to access my creativity – by using chakras as the foundation for Haiku poetry – when I had to write “upbeat” pieces of work for publication right after having to Euthanize another (the third during the pandemic) of my pets who had been with me for eighteen years. You also can overcome grief, physical pain, or “just being stuck,” by employing these techniques – with or without the poetry.

Speaking in Haiku ~

crying

I was not smiling.

I felt paralyzed with grief.

I colored myself.

You will understand that last line better if you read (below) about Haiku and see the last poem.

As a holistic healing practitioner, I was blessed to know techniques that can be used to overcome grief and/or to tap into your imaginative mind for solving problems. You, too, can get “unstuck” in all areas of creativity, or household and business projects, and even health and emotional well-being, by learning about these chakra techniques. Most can be done anywhere in any circumstances. The Haiku is optional!

First let’s learn some definitions of Chakras and Haiku for those who don’t already know. Then, I’ll describe some simple tools you can use as relates to chakras.

If you want to learn LOTS more, then we can schedule this topic as a private session or as one of the classes I can teach to individuals or groups. Just sayin’ ….

Stress Less Approaches to Challenges You Face

Stress Less and Change Your Life!

Nancy Wyatt dressed in white teaching classes on how to Stress LessI’m about to play a trick on you now. I’m going to take the teachings of  Matthew E. May, in his New York Times article, Achieving Mindfulness at Work, No Meditation Cushion Required, and change the utilization of his wisdom. He says,

There are two approaches to mindfulness: Eastern and Western. The Eastern view indeed positions meditation as an essential tool to achieving a mindful state. But the Eastern view is more about quieting the mind and suspending thought. This philosophy is almost the complete opposite of the Western view of mindfulness, which centers on active thinking.

I recommend that you read his whole article, which is thoughtful and well-written. Matthew is the author of a book, entitled, Winning the Brain Game. Let’s explore the above concept a bit first.

Meditation 101: Practices, Postures, & Everything In Between

Meditation 101 ~ Would You Like to Hear About Meditation From Someone New?

Namaste! This is the first time I’ve allowed a Contributing Author to provide the content for a post on my website. I’m giving you a teaser from his blog on Meditation101: Practices, Postures, and Pretty Much Everything In Between. Jamal Bara is the owner and author of the Fitness Goat website. We started communicating after he saw my page on a class I teach about the similarities and differences among Meditation, Affirmations, and Creative Visualization

I am sharing just an outline of his article here. Please do go to the link for his whole blog and the other interesting posts he provides on health and wellness topics.
Jamal talks about various kinds of meditation, meditation poses, the chakra system, the benefits and “downsides” of various modalities, and apps you can get to help you learn or practice meditation. Here are highlights that 1) will help you and 2) will motivate you to read his entire article and several other blog posts on his website. Note: my “Read More” function is not working, so just scroll down until you decide to stop.

Meditation 101: According to Jamal Bara

What is Meditation?

Meditation is a deliberate practice and one that requires your most quiet, mindful state. The word is tossed around a lot, but you may not exactly know meditation’s actual meaning or function. If asked, I would initial picture Yoda summoning the Force. Perhaps this is a form of meditation, but we’ll leave that for the galaxy.

Though meditation varies and splinters off into different styles of practices, it begins with one specific application—calming your mind. It also (hopefully) ends with a similar goal—restoring balance. The in-between is where you can customize your practice.

Meditation 101: Types of Meditation

  • Vipassana meditation (observation of reality)
  • Float tank (sensory deprivation)
  • Guided meditation (instruction & response)
  • Chakra meditation (personal inventory)
  • Forest bathing (gentle wandering)

Benefits of Meditation

  • Lowers anxiety
  • Increases awareness
  • Mindfulness creates control
  • Being present in our bodies helps us appreciate its function

Meditation 101 Postures

  • Sitting
  • Quarter Lotus (Burmese)
  • Full Lotus
  • Seated in Chair
  • Lying down
  • Corpse Pose (Savasana)
  • Supta Baddha Konasana (Bolstered Hip Opener)
  • Mindful Movement

Meditation 101: Apps

Jamal lists several apps to help you meditate after this introduction.

Using apps on your phone may seem like it’s defeating the purpose of detaching and focusing, but I’m liking this option. I need the incentive to stay on task and build a habit. Whether that’s a monthly payment or simply seeing the app button on my home screen, I think we could all use a boost.

Frequently Asked Questions About Meditation 101

  • Are meditation and prayer the same thing?
  • When is the best time of day to meditate?
  • How long should I meditate?
  • Should I close my eyes?

That’s the end of Jamal’s blog content. Please contact him directly with questions.  Meditation 101: Practices, Postures, and Pretty Much Everything In Between.

Life Coach? Why Hire One? What To Expect If You Do!

Life Coach – We invented the concept, but is it valuable?

So, You Want or Need to CHANGE YOUR LIFE?

Why Hire A Life Coach?

Nancy Wyatt dressed in white giving a speech at networking meeting

Nancy Wyatt speaking at Girl Boss Networking on How To Give An Effective Elevator Speech and Expand It for Other Purposes

In part, that depends on what you want to solve by hiring a Life Coach. Each Coach is different, and each Client is different. In fact, the same Client may have different needs, as they grow and learn. There are several main categories. For example, you might choose to Change Your Life in areas like:

  • Attitude
  • Habits
  • Career
  • Health
  • Relationships
  • Spiritual Practices
  • Stress or PTSD/Trauma Symptoms.

Maybe you:

  • have suffered a great loss.
  • want to get over a fear of public speaking.
  • aspire to write a book.
  • choose not to feel like a victim anymore.

Maybe you’re just in transition as you Age to a new Stage!

Nancy Wyatt, Life Coach, smiling

Nancy (Ayanna) Wyatt wants to meet you!

If you hire me, as your Change Your Life Coach, here’s what you should expect and what you’ll get for your investment of time and money.

(Note: if you hire me as a personal growth or spiritual counselor, the ethics are the same. However, we have tools which may help you delve into the past or causes of current issues. We shall explore beliefs and emotions related to things you’d like to overcome. This link will take you to my NancyKnows.us site to explain the difference between coaching and counseling. That site is under construction – pardon our mess!”)

Because I am certified in both Life Coaching and Spiritual Counseling, as well as in HypnotherapyNLP, EFT, and other techniques, we can “mix and match.” You’ll get to choose and change as we go Change Your Life for the better.

What Should You Expect from Me as Your Life Coach?

You should expect:

  1. The highest degree of ethics and confidentiality, per the Change Your Life Code of Ethics.
  2. Both of us to live up to the terms of the Change Your Life Coaching Agreement. This agreement can be customized, if the template does not meet our mutual needs, and we would discuss this in the free initial consultation.
  3. To leave our sessions with:
    1. An objective
    2. Steps to follow to meet that objective
    3. A timeframe within which to accomplish it.

Below, I have provided a chart to show you the kinds of things we might explore in our work together.

  1. There are more categories and more options. I just want to give you a sense of things to consider in deciding what you want to do, since it is you who will do the work. I’m your guide, but I can’t do it for you.
  2. I’ll be happy to answer questions during the free 30-minute consultation we’ll have in-person or by phone to decide if we’re a good match for meeting your needs.
  3. You will be able to choose individual sessions or Change Your Life Packages to save money while you invest in yourself. (See chart at the end of this page)

stick figure at whiteboard writing goalsAgain, a Coach is not a Counselor. What we do in coaching is offer guidance in resolving current “Real Life Issues” while maintaining spiritual and ethical integrity concerning others and the Self. We don’t look back. We start with the “Now.” We find stress reduction and creative options for change that will enhance health in body, mind, spirit, and emotions. This often involves multiple steps in goal setting and achievement within a specified deadline. I’ll give you tools and will be your “accountability partner.” That could involve being your cheerleader, your confidante, and/or she who kicks you in the appropriate place to get you moving.

Again, these are just some possibilities. I also may refer you to others. Whatever we do will be customized just for you as an individual or as the group that hired me. It will be fun, fascinating, irritating, and beneficial. There will be times you love me and, perhaps, times you hate me; but, we’ll always seek the Highest Good For All Concerned.

Putting Yourself First for A Change: A Self-Care Checklist

Putting Yourself First for A Change

Change Your Life! Happy figures.

profile of woman in headscarf - looking down - ready for changeAs we know, all cultural training teaches women to take care of their family’s needs as the highest priority and at any cost. As nurturing spirits, we often extend that caring behavior to include everyone but ourselves. The result can be difficulty in “saying no,” setting boundaries and addressing one’s own physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. NOW is the time to change our minds – in a GOOD way.

Forgive me (and read only once), if you have gotten this twice.)

Love and Tolerance have been MIA (missing in action) during this political season – not just in the United States of  America, but across the globe. It can be difficult to find and/or keep one’s emotional, spiritual, and even physical balance when immersed in the news of political or social upheaval and in images of the victims of wars and acts of terrorism.  Doctors report a big increase in patient visits for stress-related symptoms during and after the Presidential election. Solfeggio Healing – What Is It?

Is Solfeggio Healing Real?

hand in meditation pose - everything is energy - so do Solfeggio Frequencies work for healing?

There are many Solfeggio Healing videos on YouTube that you can check out. What is Solfeggio Healing and why is there a controversy now?

Solfeggio proponents believe that there are specific sound frequencies (measured in Hertz) that can be used to correct all manner of problems. Here are some examples.

  • 396 Herz to relieve guilt and fear
  • 417 Herz to undo situations and negative influences from the past; assist in change
  • 528 for miracles and transformation of DNA; chakra cleansing
  • 639 for healing relations and activating the healing powers of the heart
  • 852  and 963 for releasing subconscious negative patterns and opening the 3rd Eye.

Some believe there are six Solfeggio sounds that are included in ancient Gregorian Chants and those frequencies come from Sacred Geometry. Others believe there are nine. Those who are challenging these claims don’t believe any of it. I don’t know who is correct or if anyone is, but (rightly or wrongly) the first two remind me of people who teach up to 10 Levels of Reiki.

When the originator of Reiki began to teach, he offered 3 Levels.

  1. Level One ~ People who merely want to help themselves, family, and friends take this class.
  2. Level Two ~ People who want to use Reiki as a professional healing tool are allowed to take this class.
  3. Level Three ~ The Master Teachers required ten years of practice, under their own watchful eyes. The Master initiated the candidate only if the Master determined that the applicant truly had mastered Reiki and intended to devote his/her life to its practice.

I think the additional levels taught by current teachers are offered as more ways in which some of those teachers can make money. They have changed the teachings into something that is not of the Purist bent. A few have added legitimate enhancements to the basic teachings and initiations. But, I digress.

Back to Solfeggio Frequencies

Watch this YouTube video by Jamie Butriff, who disputes the basic assumptions about Solfeggio frequencies. I had never heard of him until today, so I don’t know about his authority. He does have a passion for the subject. Watch it and then come back to see what I think about it.  The controversy

What I Know About Solfeggio and Frequency Healing

What I do know is that EVERYTHING IS ENERGY. On earth, there are correspondences between all the notes on a scale of music and the colors of the rainbow. They affect us, because we, too, are energy beings. In addition, I feel sure we are affected by frequencies that science and our senses have not yet identified or perceived.

What I also know is that Sound Wave Healing CAN WORK by using frequencies at specific Hertz for specific organs, diseases, the presence of parasites, metals, viruses, etc. A therapy called “Voice Print Analysis” determines the current condition of the body and the corresponding healing frequencies that are needed to offset dysfunction.  It does not use music, whereas most of the YouTube offerings combine the frequencies into music. If you want to learn more about this, I can refer you to my Master Teacher, who helped develop this protocol over many years and is an expert in the field.

Even if Butriff and others are technically correct, it does not mean that the Solfeggio tones won’t assist you. It certainly should not harm you, so I suggest you try it and draw conclusions, based on your results. Feel free to let me know your results!

Classes – Holistic Healing

Holistic Healing is something in which I have many certifications. This page is to let you know that I’m available to teach one of my most popular seminars (which also can be presented as a workshop). It is a Class on Holistic Healing techniques and styles, also known as  “Complementary and Alternative Medicine.”

Nancy Wyatt dressed in white teaching classes on holistic healing

I can conduct the presentation on Zoom or in person throughout the Washington, D.C. Metro Area and the Winchester to Warrenton regions of Virginia. Of course, I can travel to you also, if you want to pay for the transportation and hotel!

It is a 5-hour class or a longer workshop, but I can make it well-suited for online presentations by giving us breaks and things to do while standing up and moving. (I know you would multitask and/or leave the device on which you’re streaming the class! You can’t kid me, but I hope you’ll watch instead, as I share lots of images to help people understand and remember the content!) I provide extensive notes, so you don’t have to scribble notes while I’m talking unless you want to do so.

This class provides an overview of several assumptions, theories, ethics, and modalities related to complementary and alternative wellness practices for the student to explore. It is for people who want to get well, stay well, and live well without the use of pharmaceutical drugs. See the topics, goals of the class, and my certifications below, and/or scroll to the bottom to sign up! 😉 Continue Reading →

“…meditation refers to a … variety of practices … to promote relaxation, build internal energy or life force (qi, ki, prana, etc.) and develop compassion, love, patience, generosity and forgiveness …(and) to enable its practitioner to enjoy an indestructible sense of well-being while engaging in any life activity

ALMOST NO ONE IS REALLY GOOD AT MEDITATION!

WHO CARES?!!

Swamiji Chinmayananda - one of the people who taught me about meditation

Beloved Swamiji Chinmayananda

One of my favorite teachers was Swamiji Chinmayananda (an investigative reporter turned Himalayan monk).  He used to say meditating is like riding a stationary bike in your home. You know all along you’re not going anywhere. It’s the practice that counts.”

To paraphrase Shirley MacLaine, every time you stare at a candle flame, a sunset, waves of the ocean, or a fire in the hearth, you are meditating. Other people call it “zoning out.”

Fire and Ice Sunset on Frozen Shores is a great setting for doing a meditation

We all do it; we just don’t call it meditation. We can benefit more by doing it consciously and daily, even if only for a few minutes. Continue Reading →

Sleep Like A Baby – A Guided Meditation

DO YOU SLEEP LIKE A BABY?  OR…

DO YOU HAVE TROUBLE FALLING ASLEEP AND STAYING ASLEEP?

SLEEP LIKE A BABY!

This is what I call the audio recording I created to help people quit worrying and not only fall asleep, but stay asleep with continued use.

DOES ‘SLEEP LIKE A BABY’ REALLY WORK?

Yes!

How do I know for sure that ‘SLEEP LIKE A BABY’ works?

…Because the sound engineer fell asleep while we were recording it, and because every time my employees tested it, they fell asleep partway through it and never could stay awake until the end, even though they were sitting or standing!

Each meditation is 30 minutes long and repeats once.  Click on these links to hear a sample of the music selections, which are:  1) Llewellyn’s  Reiki Starlight,  2) Llewellyn’s Reiki White Light, or 3) Tibetan Healing Sounds with bells and chimes as background.  An additional version has no music, so you can have silence, or choose your preferred background sounds, like water, nature sounds, white noise, etc.  Copyright permissions were granted by Paradise Music & Media, and my sound mixer is Gokul Chalasani.
